The Red Bull Ring in Styria celebrated its re-opening in 2011 after the circuit previously known as the Österreichring and latterly the A1-Ring was comprehensively upgraded. The circuit was totally renovated although it follows the layout of its classic predecessor. For many years the Ring was Formula 1's fastest circuit, and proved extremely popular amongst drivers on account of its many fast corners. The winner of the first grand prix held here was Jacky Ickx in 1970 in a Ferrari.

The circuit is surrounded on three sides by hills, which double as natural grandstands. These provide views across the entire circuit, creating a unique atmosphere during race meetings.
