When the elite of the motorsport world return to the USA after an absence of several years, the brand-new Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas, will be the new venue for the Formula One Grand Prix. As of 2013, the circuit will also host a MotoGP each year for the next ten years. The track was designed by German architect Hermann Tilke and is specifically aimed at meeting the demands of Formula One. One unique feature of the layout is the way the track widens in the corners, offering drivers more than one racing line.

This design is adopts a rather European approach of incorporating the natural properties of the landscape into the circuit. As such, the track features many undulations, resulting in a total change in altitude of about 40 metres. The start/finish straight ends with an uphill section, which leads into a hairpin bend. The grandstands wills seat about 100,000 spectators at future racing spectacles.
