The circuit also known as "Motorland Aragon" is located near Alcañiz in the northeast of Spain. German circuit architect Hermann Tilke designed the track with the assistance of former Formula One driver Pedro de la Rosa as sporting and technical consultant. The plan is for the racetrack to be integrated in a multi-functional business and leisure facility, including shopping centres and technology parks.

The very modern circuit was originally intended as an alternative track for various motorbike series, and was the fourth Spanish circuit to be used by the MotoGP in the 2010 season. As a result of its first-rate facilities, Aragon has since become a permanent venue for the Superbike World Championship.
