The race track in Spain's capital Madrid is a classic, having regularly hosted the Spanish Grand Prix between 1968 and 1981. The British driver Graham Hill was the first world champion to celebrate victory in Madrid.

In its original form the circuit was extraordinarily narrow, with the layout including tight corners and short straights, making overtaking difficult. The circuit currently hosts rounds of various sports car championships, having been lengthened and widened in 1991 to meet modern standards.
