The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is one of Europe's most spectacular new race circuits. The facility in Portimão was completed in October 2008, and was officially opened on 2 November of the same year during its staging the final round of the 2008 World Superbike Championship.

Total construction costs amounted to 195 million Euro, with the 300 hectare site housing a kart track, a technology park, a sports complex and a five-star hotel in addition to the main circuit. The grandstands of this ultra-modern facility can accommodate over 80 000 spectators.
