Turkey

The international motorsport spotlight first fell on Turkey in 2009 when it hosted the first Formula One Grand Prix on Anatolian soil. The ultra-modern Istanbul Park circuit on the Asian side of the city has also hosted the MotoGP series.
In 2003 the Rally Turkey was confirmed as an official round of the World Championship season. Its origins date back to 1972 and an unofficial tour around Istanbul. Tough special stages in the Anatolian Mountains have earned today's rally a reputation for being very demanding. Turkey is also represented in the WRC, in the form of driver Volkan Isik.
