South Korea

South Korea enjoys a place on the Formula 1 calendar, yet motorsport in the country is still in its infancy. The premier national race series is the Super Race Championship, inaugurated in 2006. The country’s largest motorsport complex is the Korea International Circuit (KIC) situated in Yeongam in the south west of the country. This state-of-the-art facility was designed by Aachen architect Hermann Tilke, and was opened in 2010.
Shortly thereafter KIC hosted South Korea’s first grand prix, serving to place the country on the international motorsport map and piquing the interest of other series. The big event has served to enthuse South Korea’s motorsport interest.
