Singapore

The Grand Prix of Singapore is an annual highlight on the Formula 1 calendar. The city glitters when the sport’s superstars speed past houses, skyscrapers and historic buildings under floodlights. However, the city’s motorsport history harks back further than 2008, when Formula 1 made its debut in the Tiger State.
The first grand prix in Singapore was held over half a century ago, and was run between 1961 and 1973 on the Thomson Road Grand Prix Circuit, a five-kilometre street course. Originally this car and motorcycle event was known as the Orient Year Grand Prix, then Malaysian Grand Prix until 1965, when the country’s independence saw the race renamed Singapore Grand Prix.
