Lithuania

Motorsport was practised in Lithuania before World War II, with the most important event being the Rally Around Lithunia, held in July 1931. The National Rally Championship was instituted in 1960, although Lithuanians also successfully contested the USSR Rally Championship - winning no less than 12 titles. In 1961 and 1962 Lithuania staged circuit racing and autocross events.
Following the collapse of the USSR, Lithuania regained independence in 1990; the same year saw motorsport enthusiasts form the Lithuanian Automobile Sport Federation (LASF), which became affiliated to the world motoring’s governing body, the FIA, in 1994. Thereafter motorsport blossomed, with the Baltic state having its colours flown by Lithuanian youngsters in international single-seater and touring car championships.
