Czech Republic

The Czech Grand Prix has been a permanent fixture on the MotoGP calendar for decades and is well loved by fans of the bike scene in Europe. However, Formula One can also look back on a long history in the former Czechoslovakia. In the 1930s, Motorsport's elite class could regularly be seen at the Masaryk Circuit, which later became the Automotodrom Brno. Monaco's Louis Chiron won three times during this period.
Following the Second World War, Ferrari driver Peter Whitebread won the last Formula One race to date at the iconic track near Brno in 1949. In the 1970s and 1980s, the Czechoslovakian Grand Prix was an annual highlight of the European Touring Car Championship. When it was last held in 1988, the Grand Prix formed part of the Sports Car World Championship. The winners back then were Jochen Mass and Jean-Louis Schlesser in a Sauber-Mercedes Silver Arrow.
