Bahrain

Motorsport burst onto the scene in this small desert emirate when Formula One made its debut there in 2004. The premiere at the spectacular Bahrain International Circuit was also the first ever Formula One race to be held in the Middle East. The country also created another first for Formula One: in order to comply with Islamic conventions, the organisers use a mixture of fruit and rose water instead of the usual champagne shower.
When the circuit was built, with the cooperation of international experts, it effectively launched the country's motorsport history, which, along with Formula One, now boasts a remarkable variety of events including GP2, Formula 3 and drag races.
