Known around the world as the long-term venue for the USA Formula One Grand Prix, the Watkins Glen International is a centre for American and international motorsport. In the early years, races were still held on public roads around the town of Watkins Glen, without safety barriers between the cars and the spectators on the roadside. As time went by, a permanent circuit was built. The track developed a legendary reputation from 1957 onwards, hosting races in the Formula Libre series, which attracted motorsport greats like Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham to "The Glen".

Located near to New York, the circuit has been the subject of modifications in recent years. The surface has been replaced on several occasions, while a modern media centre and new control tower have been added. The circuit was widened in accordance with the requirements of the various NASCAR Series, which are the most frequent visitors to "The Glen".
