Goodwood is rich in motorsport tradition. The best evidence comes not only in the form of the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is held there every year, but also the Goodwood Motor Circuit itself. It is the only classic racetrack in the world that has completely retained its original form. The 2.4-mile (3.8 kilometres) circuit near Chichester in West Sussex was built around an old airfield after the Second World War and was opened in 1948.

The circuit was the venue for iconic races up to 1966. The names of motorsport legends like Stirling Moss, Juan Manuel Fangio, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Jochen Rindt and Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips are inseparably linked with Goodwood. Nowadays, private drivers can follow in the footsteps of their heroes at Goodwood. The circuit was the subject of extensive restoration work at the end of the 1990s, and was reopened in 1998. The layout of the circuit is flat, but features flowing corners and a chicane.
