Martinsville Speedway, situated in the town of the same name in Virginia, looks back on a long history. The oval was built in 1947, and is viewed as one of the classic venues on the calendar of the NASCAR, which grew in stature at around the same time. Currently Sprint Cup and World Truck Series events visit Martinsville twice annually, with the Nationwide Series having previously featured.

At 0.526 miles the oval is the shortest on the NASCAR calendar. The layout consists of two long straights and two tight corners banked at 12 degrees, hence its nickname 'The Paperclip'.
