The Carolina Motorsports Park is the result of an ongoing private initiative by a group of regional motorsport enthusiasts. The former military property, used during World War II as a training ground, was acquired in 1998, and immediately developed. The result is a modern road racing circuit combining a selection of with long straights with a series of challenging corners of varying difficulty levels. The circuit's most interesting sector cuts through a forest at the back of the circuit.

The layout is perfect for both sports cars and motorcycles, particularly as extended natural run-off areas eliminate the need for safety barriers. A smaller kart track is situated beside the main circuit.
