This circuit, named after the former Formula 1 driver Piero Taruffi, is situated approximately 20 kilometers north of Rome, and has a long, illustrious history. Opened in 1951, the circuit hosted the Grand Prix of Rome in the sixties. Thereafter the Italian Automobile Club acquired the circuit, progressively upgrading it.

Further improvements, which saw the circuit to meet the FIA's stringent standards, followed in 2004, enabling the circuit to not only attract the Superbike World Championship, but also numerous Formula 1 teams, who once regularly tested at the circuit surrounded by picturesque rolling meadows.
