The racetrack in Noida, on the outskirts of Delhi, was opened in 2011 when it hosted the first Formula One race on the Indian subcontinent and promptly impressed as a premiere venue. One of the fastest circuits on the Formula One calendar, the Hermann Tilke-designed circuit also features a fascinating mixture of tight, slow corners and many undulations, which were well received by the drivers.

The name of the circuit comes from Buddha and is intended to symbolise peace and calm. It also refers to the district, in which the circuit is located. The track will become part of an enormous sports complex, including a golf course, cricket arena, hockey stadium, and a luxury hotel, and will thus offer a pleasant contrast to the hectic goings-on in the neighbouring metropolis of Delhi.
