The Texas World Speedway is one of just seven high-speed ovals in the USA with a distance of over two miles. Located in College Station, halfway between Houston and Austin, the Speedway was originally a centre for American motorsport. The first winner of the IndyCar series at this circuit was Al Unser in 1973. The Texas World Speedway went through a quiet period in later years before being remoulded in the 1990s.

Since then it has primarily been used as a test circuit for the major NASCAR series and a venue for amateur races, as well as being open to private drivers for test drives. The enormous size gives the Texas World Speedway an impressive aura of sheer speed. NASCAR driver Greg Biffle set the track record of 351 km/h whilst testing in 2009.
