The origin of the racetrack goes back to an initiative launched by George Barber, whose passion for vintage cars and motorcycles resulted in the museum bearing his name, which now boasts a collection of over 1200 vehicles. The racetrack, which is a feast for the eyes of any motorsport enthusiast, was added to the museum in 2003. It is spread out over several small hills, which act as natural stands offering views of the entire circuit.

The ultra-modern layout of the track was designed by circuit architect Alan Wilson and is the venue for several professional racing series, including the Superbike World Championship and many classes of sports car. The IndyCar series also celebrated its premiere at the Barber Motorsports Park in 2010.
