Atlanta Motor Speedway is situated in the US State of Georgia, approximately 30 kilometers south of Atlanta. The circuit was opened in 1960 as Atlanta International Raceway, and has been regularly upgraded and modernized since. The primary focus of the current facility is its 1.54-mile quad-oval, while the infield facilitates various circuit configurations - including a short oval and road circuit.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of NASCAR's faster circuits, and is a fixture on the series' calendar. The Indy Racing League and the CART ChampCar Series also staged events at the circuit, with floodlights enabling racing after dark.
