Motorsport in the Rocky Mountains has its origin in Aspen. The first races were held here after the end of the Second World War, and followed the format of a Le Mans sports car race. Each summer, the races at the highest circuit in the USA were must-see events for thousands of spectators from around the region.

Nowadays, numerous sports car races, featuring various brands and classes, are held at the Aspen Motorsports Park, which is surrounded by mountain peaks. Twice a week the owners organise exclusive club races for their members. The affinity that Aspen has always enjoyed with classic sports car races is also expressed in the form of regular special events, which attract big names like Emerson Fittipaldi.
